For a first visit to Daecheon Beach, travel to Daecheon Station or Boryeong Bus Terminal, then continue to the beach by local bus or taxi. Choose a beach walk and a meal for a simple day out. Stay one night if sunset, swimming or a festival session is the main reason for coming; it leaves the return journey out of the evening.

Find the beach, not just Boryeong
Save 대천해수욕장 in your map app. VISITKOREA lists Daecheon Beach at 123 Meodeu-ro, Boryeong-si, with a shoreline about 3.5 kilometers long. Treat that address as a useful beach-area reference, then save the particular hotel, activity or meeting point you need.
For a manageable first visit, start around Mud Plaza (머드광장) rather than deciding to cover the entire shoreline. A short stretch of sand, a proper lunch and time beside the water can be enough. Walking the full beach is an option, not an admission requirement.
Getting to Daecheon Beach from Seoul
By train: search for Daecheon, and check the departure station
The Korea Tourism Organization transport guide outlines a route from Yongsan Station to Daecheon Station. Start with those station names in KORAIL’s booking system, enter your travel date and choose the departure that leaves enough time at the beach. Save the return reservation as well.
Yongsan Station and Seoul Station are different places. Follow the departure station printed on your ticket. For an airport arrival, our Seoul Station guide explains AREX and luggage storage, but a ticket departing from Yongsan still requires you to reach Yongsan.
By express bus: compare Central City to Boryeong
The same KTO guide identifies Central City Terminal in Seoul → Boryeong Bus Terminal as the express-bus approach. Compare it with the train using your hotel’s location and the available return journey. Arriving at the terminal does not put you on the sand; there is a local connection afterward.

The last connection: local buses 100 and 101
The local operator, Daecheon Passenger Transport, publishes a beach-bound timetable under 버스터미널 대천역 해수욕장 대천항 방면, meaning the bus-terminal, Daecheon Station, beach and Daecheon Port direction. Routes 100 and 101 in that table include Mud Plaza (머드광장) and Fountain Plaza (분수광장).
Show the driver your intended beach stop before boarding. Use the timetable for the correct direction, and do not assume a listed departure time applies to every stop along the route. For the return trip, save the station or terminal name separately from the beach.
With wet bags, several suitcases or a tired group, compare a taxi for this last leg. Ask to go to the actual hotel or meeting point, not simply “Boryeong.” Build the evening around the connection you can catch, rather than the last possible intercity departure.
Swimming season and the Mud Festival are different calendars
Boryeong City’s July 6, 2026 opening notice announced the beach’s summer operating period. The festival organizer’s English page gives a separate period for the Mud Festival.

For a visit after September 10, 2026, do not book on the assumption that summer swimming services or festival activities are still running. Plan the coast around a walk, a meal and any separately operating attraction. For a later summer, use that year’s announcement rather than carrying these dates forward.
During an operated swimming season, follow the designated swimming area, posted hours and any instructions from lifeguards. A warm afternoon does not override a closure or weather restriction. A sunset walk and a sunset swim are different decisions.
What festival admission does, and does not, cover
For 2026, the organizer’s ticket page distinguished paid General and Family Zones from a free Mud Cask Zone. It also listed August 5 as a safety-inspection closure for the experience zones. A festival’s start and end dates therefore do not mean that every activity runs every day.
When planning a future edition, choose the session and zone before reserving a room. For a beach-only trip, you do not need to build the day around a mud activity. For a festival trip, allow time afterward to wash, change and collect your belongings before heading for transport.
Add Sky Bike only if it fits your day
The Boryeong City Facilities Management Corporation’s Sky Bike guide lists the following standard adult rates. The price is for one bike, not for each rider.

Each bike requires two to four riders. The operator offers online booking from 09:00 on the first day of the preceding month until midnight before the visit. Same-day tickets are sold on site only from the remaining capacity. Exchange the mobile barcode for a paper ticket at the kiosk, then be ready ten minutes before the booked time.
For two adults, budget KRW 23,000 for the bike, not twice that amount. Child and other discounts have separate conditions. Wind or rain can stop operation; leave a café break as your alternative rather than making the ride essential to the whole trip.
A beach-first day, or an easier overnight stay
For a day trip
Our suggested order is arrival → local transfer → lunch near your chosen beach section → beach time or a booked activity → return transfer. Aim to leave several hours at the coast after the long-distance journey. The value of coming is time by the sea, not collecting several extra stops before the train home.
Choose just one main block. A suggested 60 to 90 minutes works for an unhurried walk with stops; a swimming visit in the operated season needs more time for changing and washing. A Sky Bike booking becomes the fixed point, with lunch and the walk arranged around it. These are planning allowances, not measured visit durations.
Before leaving the station or terminal, decide when you must start back from the beach. Include the local ride, waiting time and finding your intercity platform or boarding point. Cut an optional stop rather than removing all of that margin.
For one night
Use the first afternoon for the beach and keep dinner close to your accommodation. VISITKOREA highlights the sunset over Dabodo Island; make an evening walk part of the stay when the weather is clear. There is no need to combine the sunset with a hurried transfer across town.
On the second morning, take a shorter walk or fit in the activity you booked, then collect your bags and leave. Staying overnight is our preferred version for travelers who want both a substantial beach visit and an evening beside the water. It is a recommendation about pace, not a claim that a day trip is impossible.
Choose the hotel by the walk you will actually make
Put the hotel entrance and your chosen beach section on the same map. A property described as being “in Boryeong” may suit an early rail departure better than an evening beach walk. For a coastal stay, prioritize the route back after dinner, a workable check-in time and somewhere to manage wet clothing.
For families, ask about the room’s maximum occupancy and bedding before paying. A room with enough floor space is not necessarily sold for the number of people in your group. For an early arrival, arrange bag storage separately rather than expecting access to the room before check-in.
The organizer’s shower and storage directory identifies Mud Plaza at 123 Meodeu-ro as a facilities location. That gives you a place to ask, not a promise of year-round opening. Before committing to water or mud activities, establish where you can wash, change and recover your bags that day.
For dinner, read the menu before joining a queue. With a shared platter, ask what the displayed price includes and how many people it is intended to serve. A useful question is “이 가격은 한 접시 가격인가요?”, meaning “Is this the price for one plate?” Agree on any separately charged additions before they arrive at the table.

Is Daecheon Beach worth visiting without the Mud Festival?
Yes, for travelers who want a coast-focused break. Make the visit about the beach, a meal and an optional activity rather than expecting festival installations outside their event dates. The overnight plan above is designed to work without a festival ticket.
Can I visit without renting a car?
Yes. Use the rail or express-bus approach, then the operator’s beach-bound bus services or a taxi. The detail that matters most is the final connection in both directions, not just the intercity ticket.
Should I stay overnight if I want to see sunset?
We recommend it when your return booking would otherwise make the evening rushed. A day trip is still an option when your actual transport schedule leaves enough room to reach the station or terminal after the beach.
